Spiritual Organization

Under the auspicious of the St: Peter’s & St: Paul’s Orthodox Church Kolenchery, the Sunday school was established in 1916 as a nursery ground for the spiritual growth of the children of the members of the Parish. The Sunday school caters to the overall needs for their personality development. Now there are more than 200 children studying in different classes from one to twelve. It has produced hundreds of God fearing souls serving in different fields of church activities. An added attraction is the vacation Bible school ( O V B S) conducted during Mid summer and practice pated by large number of enthusiastic children. The Sunday school also fosters the artistic talents of the children especially in singing dance, speech etc.

It is noteworthy that the teachers get proper in-service training through the teachers meeting in district level once in three months and two days training at diocese level once in a year. Thus the church takes pride in having the first catholic’s H H Bascelious Paulose Ist as a parish member and also having a strong well run Sunday school.

All the above activities are being executed by a team of dedicated teachers controlled by the headmaster Mr. M P Abraham, under the supervision of the president Rev Fr. Jacob Kurian and Vice President Rev Fr. Mahesh Thankachan .

In 1921 all the priest under the Church and all the elders gathered together and started a Sunday school. The children were well trained in bible and religious songs.

After many years peringole LP school were handed over to Government. So a permanent building was necessary for the Sunday school and by 1950 all people staying near to the premises of the school bought land in the name of church and built the Sunday school building.

This Sunday school was under the Valakom Dist. Later it became a part of Kolenchery Dist. The Students took part in many competitions like Sunday school quiz competition, bible reading, speech and won many prizes and showed high standard.

Worship, study and service, as the motto itself suggests, has played a very practical role among the youth. This has helped lead the youth into the mainstream of the church and society besides generating awareness in their minds through theme oriented seminars and interactive discussions. Youth meetings are held every Sunday after the Holy Qurbana. The sessions involve prayer, Bible reading, songs, group discussions, quizzes, games, etc. Regular classes on faith, liturgy and traditions of the church are also conducted.

At our church OCYM started on 1991 September 31 under the guidance of Rev. Fr Abraham Poovethumveetil . OCYM kolenchery unit organized many programmes like Bible Class, Parumala Piligimage, Christmas programmes and many other camps to lead the younger generations.

The MGOCSM Started during 1992 January at St Peters College Kolenchery . it was started with the help of vibrant Youth movement of kolenchery church as well as with the guidance and support of Rev. Fr. O J Jacob.

The movement at the St. Peter’s and St Paul’s orthodox church consists of a group of vibrant students who, under the leadership of our priest Rev. Fr. Meetings are conducted on the first Sunday of each month, and involve activities such as prayer, interactive discussions, bible studies and talks from influential speakers. The group has been involved in a majority of church activities such as the working bee, and participating in annual celebrations such as our Christmas and St. Thomas day programs. The association also aims to reach out to the greater community by participating in and conducting events such as blood donations and charity fundraisers.

We hope that the MGOCSM of our parish in Kolenchery continues to grow spiritually and contribute too many more key areas within the public. We gladly welcome all those interested to participate in our activities and join our movement.

Martha Mariam Samagam is the association of women in the Malankara Orthodox Church with Blessed Virgin Saint Mary as the patron Saint. 'Martha' is the feminine form of 'Mar' which means Saint in Syriac language. So Martha Mariam Samajam association named after St. Mary.

The Samajam mainly aims at spiritual growth of women. The motto of the Samajam is "Pray, ACt, and Shine." Jesus taught us to pray, asked us to help the needy and called us to be the "light of the world". As Samajam members try to follow that in their daily life.

Our church Martha Mariam Samajam is a very active groups in the Diocese. Several members attend the annual conferences and retreats, and our diocese for any matter. Their prayers, fasting and selfless dedication has been one of the greatest blessings to the parish. The Martha Mariam Samajam meets twice a month and more if guests visit the parish. Prayer is an integral part of true Christian living which requires us to live according to Kingdom of God. Prayer is a personal experience and intimate connection with our loving Heavenly Father. St. John 5:14-15 says, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of Him." The prayer meetings are held at various houses of the parish on every Sunday. We conduct special prayer meetings on various occasions during lent, birthdays, wedding anniversaries, house blessings, memorial services, death of a family member in India. For any information regarding scheduling a special prayer meeting for any occasions, Please contact the prayer coordinator.
